Weber Grill Review
The second generation of Weber Summit grills was the Silver and Gold series which came to
market in 2002. The Silver line of grills had four main burners while the Gold line had six. If you
are trying to follow along in Weber grill history I want to give you a heads up here. This line of
grills is short lived, just a few years, before being replaced by the Gold and Platinum line of
Summit grills. The Gold grills in the second generation of Summits are all six burner grills, the
Gold grills in the third generation of Summits are not.
The biggest difference between these Summits and the line they replaced are the availability of
a side burner and rotisserie as well as the redesign and relocation of the smoker box. A more
subtle difference is the configuration of the Flavorizer bars. All previous Weber gas grills had
individual Flavorizer bars that you arranged in the cooking chamber. These Weber grills had
two Flavorizer bar assemblies with multiple bars welded together. The cooking grates and
Flavorizer bars are stainless steel coming with a seven and five year warranty respectively.
The four burner grills, the Silvers, were available in models A, B and C. The Summit Silver A was
a straight four burner grill with no accessories. The Silver B added a side burner while the Silver
C had a side burner and a smoker box. The Silver C was actually a five burner grill with the fifth
burner being dedicated to heating the smoker box.
The smoker box was unique in that unlike the previous Summit grills this smoker sat directly
over a Flavorizer bar and was not under the cooking grate. This was also unique from the
smoker box used on Genesis grills as those smoker boxes were heated by the left side of the
three different burner tubes. This was the result of the smoker box in the Genesis being
perpendicular to the burner tubes instead of parallel as in the Summit.
The six burner grills, the Golds, were available in models A, B and D. The Summit Gold A was a
straight six burner grill while the Gold B added a side burner. The Gold D added a side burner,
smoker box and infrared rotisserie. The smoker box was the same as in the Silver C and was
fired by a dedicated burner. The IR rotisserie was only available on the Summit Gold D and was
also fired by an independent burner.
